New Handicap rules
Golf Canada has changed the handicap rules at the start of 2020. Instead of Equitable Stroke Control to determine what score you enter for handicap purposes, now you can only take a net double bogey on any hole. If you don't know what a net double bogey is you can go to this page to create cards that show the maximum strokes you can take for any hole.
Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Course
The picturesque Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Course is a small but challenging 9-hole course located in Lillooet, British Columbia. With its short straight fairways, minor doglegs, unforgiving small greens, newly added bunkers, tricky water holes and hazards, the Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Course promises a fun and challenging golfing experience for all levels of players.
Membership
The course is run by the Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Club, a society incorporated under the British Columbia societies act. Ultimately decisions around the course are left to members of the club though an elected committee. The constitution and bylaws can be found here.
Volunteerism
Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Course has new signs at each hole. After Ross Milward spent a good part of his winter making new signs for the Course, he was found installing them over the long weekend. Big thank you to Ross for a job well done. Our Course wouldn't be in the shape that it is in without our many volunteers. Volunteerism is what makes our community such a great place.
History
In the 1920's DC 'Joe' Jones, an avid and talented golfer, moved from Victoria to Lillooet to take over management of Cywn Mawr Ranch. The first course was located across the fence from where the present one is situated and the second course was located on one of the many river benches on the property. Both were rustic courses with sand greens, tin can cups and minimal maintenance. Over time they fell into disuse and reverted to hayfield or pasture. In 1985 David Jones created the Sheep Pasture Golf Course and brought golf back to Lillooet. Dave received much assistance from the local community and Lillooet Golf Club including the golf house which was designed and built by Jim Wright using donated lumber and time. Since then, it has been home to the local mixed breed sheep herd who keep the course well fertilized, nicely grazed and the golfers amused. David moved from the farm in 2003 but the course continued to be managed by members of the Jones family as the Lillooet Golf Course until 2011.
The Current Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Course
In 2012, the Lillooet Golf Club signed a lease with Cwyn Mawr Ranch to take over management of the course under the new name, Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Course. Still largely dependent on our faithful volunteers and members, we strive to provide an exceptional experience at an affordable price. The course is located at 5000 Texas Creek Road which is five miles (8 km) south of Lillooet. With a playing length of 2683 (white) and 2422 (red) yards, one may expect this course to play easy. Its undulations, water hazards and natural obstacles (not to mention the sheep) can be deceiving. You'll find that the Lillooet Sheep Pasture Golf Course is not only challenging, but a pleasure to play as well. The pro shop provides club and pull cart rentals and offers snack and beverage services however full food services are not available at this time. Tee time reservations are not necessary but it is recommended that you call ahead to ensure the course is not booked by a tournament or event. Please keep in mind that Ladies Night is on Tuesdays from noon to 6:00 pm, Junior Nights on Wesnesdays from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm and Men's Nights on Thursdays from noon to 6:00 pm and the course is free to golf on during these times.
